Coppice Club

Reconnecting local people with traditional woodcraft

In 2023 we started Coppice Club. The club is about reconnecting people with woodland through traditional coppicing. Working by hand in hornbeam coppice, members use axes and hand saws to learn practical woodcraft skills, spend time together outdoors, and take part in a living tradition that has shaped British woodlands for centuries.

Coppice Club is rooted in learning by doing, building confidence with hand tools, understanding trees and woodland cycles, and rediscovering historic ways of working with wood. Through careful, small‑scale coppicing, the club supports habitat diversity while producing firewood and charcoal to enjoy at the end of the process.

Membership

Coppice Club has a strong local membership of over 30 people and is not currently looking to expand. However, opportunities may arise in future so please keep an eye out for recruitment adverts in the coming years.
